Waveshare RP2350-USB-A Mini Development Board
The Waveshare RP2350-USB-A is a compact development platform designed for projects that require powerful processing capabilities and direct USB peripheral connectivity. Built around the Raspberry Pi RP2350A microcontroller, it combines versatile input/output options with a space-saving design for embedded applications.
A standout feature is its onboard USB Type-A port, which allows the board to communicate with compatible USB peripherals through its programmable I/O (PIO) functionality. This makes it especially useful for applications involving USB keyboards, mice, game controllers, and custom USB interfaces.
Key Features
- Advanced RP2350A Microcontroller: Powered by a dual-core processor architecture supporting Arm Cortex-M33 or Hazard3 RISC-V cores, with clock speeds up to 150MHz.
- Onboard USB Type-A Port: Enables connection to compatible USB peripherals for host or device applications through PIO.
- USB Type-C Interface: Provides convenient connectivity for programming and power.
- Built-in Memory: Features 520KB SRAM and 2MB onboard flash storage for programs and application data.
- 15 Multifunctional GPIO Pins: Supports connections to external sensors, displays, switches, motors, and other electronic components.
- Multiple Communication Interfaces: Includes SPI, I2C, UART, ADC, and PWM support for flexible hardware integration.
- Programmable I/O: Offers 12 PIO state machines for custom communication protocols and specialized peripheral control.
- Onboard RGB LED: Includes a WS2812 addressable RGB LED for visual feedback and status indication.
- Compact PCB Design: Castellated edges allow direct soldering onto custom carrier PCBs.
- Boot and Reset Buttons: Simplify programming, restarting, and development operations.
Applications
The RP2350-USB-A development board is suitable for:
- USB keyboard and mouse interface projects
- USB game controller and peripheral applications
- Robotics and automation systems
- Custom USB HID devices
- Embedded system development
- Data acquisition and monitoring projects
- Custom PCB and hardware prototyping
- Educational and university electronics projects
- Wearable and compact electronic devices
Programming and Compatibility
The board supports C/C++ development using the Raspberry Pi Pico SDK and can also be programmed through the Arduino IDE. USB-based UF2 drag-and-drop programming provides an additional convenient method for uploading firmware.
Its small footprint and multifunctional GPIO arrangement make it a useful choice for developers building compact and custom electronic products.
Important Note
The board is supplied as a castellated development module. Pin headers are not pre-soldered, so soldering or a suitable carrier PCB may be required for certain connections.
The onboard USB Type-A port uses PIO functionality. USB peripheral compatibility depends on the software implementation and supported device.
