The KY-032 infrared obstacle sensor is a short-range reflective detector for Arduino-compatible robots and automation prototypes. Its infrared emitter sends modulated light toward a target, while the receiver monitors the reflection and produces a digital detection signal.

Setup and calibration

Start with the original potentiometer positions, place the intended target at the required distance and adjust in small steps. A smooth, light-coloured surface may reflect more infrared energy than a black, rough or angled object. Sunlight and other infrared sources can also reduce reliable performance.

Before connecting the module to a Raspberry Pi or another 3.3V controller, verify the actual output-high voltage and add level protection if required. This is an obstacle detector, not a calibrated distance sensor.

For controller testing, connect the module to an Arduino UNO R3 after confirming its supply voltage and active-LOW output logic.
